QUESTION: "God has given us His word and Spirit to guide us and help us live to please Him. How can a person tell when they have an imbalance of word and Spirit, so, more word than Spirit or more Spirit than word?"

ANSWER: "As Bro Kenneth Hagin is known to say, " too much word within the spirit you will dry up, too much spirit within the word you will blow up, but a good balance of word and spirit, you will grow up!" Those are not his exact words but pretty much what he communicated In reality the operation of the Holy Spirit in our lives is never above the level of the word we know. So we cannot really be operating in the spirit without a commensurate knowledge and experience of the word, so those who have more spirit than the word are walking the path of presumption, the assumed spirituality is more a product of misguided zeal, passion and emotion rather than the leading of the spirit. Our spiritual maturity is measured by the amount of the word of God we can practice decidedly regardless of pressure from the flesh. You will know you have too little of the word if you find yourself compelled to do things without a basis in the word of God (scripture), however too much word (head knowledge) without the balance of the spirit makes your life as dry as toast, you will be able to quote the scriptures but you will lack the energy of a lifestyle that flows out of the practice of the word itself, you will be legalistic, literal devoid of the spirit of the word! You will know you have a balance of the word and the spirit when your life as a believer demonstrates a practical and effective use of the word in daily life, the only way this is possible is if your human spirit has grown up to the extent that it can practice the word you know. Put in another way, a believer who is balanced in word and spirit is able to live a life consistent with the word he knows, and his motivation is not from the flesh but from a mature recreated spirit that has exercised its sense to discern between good and evil, such a spirit is able to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, such will be able to demonstrate true sonship So you are able to live out the word you know in the spirit of humility, agape and perfect alignment with the will of the father according to the pricinples in the word of God Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
