QUESTION: "Is it not a concern to hear so many tongues spoken in Christendom today without evidence of the fruit of the Holy Ghost in the believers life.? Not that we ought to be Fruit Inspectors as such but the enemy will counterfeit any genuine gift of God. In corporate worship for example, a lot of tongues are spoken but contrary to what the bible says, you hardly hear any interpretation, in fact you even get people being prompted to SIT. Is this biblical?"

ANSWER: "My answer to you is that YES IT IS BIBLICAL! Mark 16:17 And these SIGNS shall follow them that believe; (1) In my name shall they cast out devils; (2) they shall speak with new tongues;... If the bible uses the word 'sign' it means it is an expected manifestation that will characterize all those who believe on him. There is the Gift of the spirit, the fruit of the spirit they are two different concepts all together. The fact that Christians are not built up in the fruit of spirit (Godly character) has very little to do with SIT, it is the believers responsibility to bear fruit through the practice of the word and being led by the spirit, it is not the Holy Spirits responsibility Christians should also not fear that they will get a counterfeit gift if they ask God for the gift of the Holy Spirit Luke 11:11-13 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children:how much more shall your heavenly Father give the HOLY SPIRIT to them that ask him? Also in corporate worship people can speak in tongues to themselves and to God (in the prayer language) This is different from giving a message publicly in tongues to the body, this is the tongue that needs interpretation! However if it's personal, it does not need interpretation! 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Also, SIT is the major aspect of our empowerment as believers (referring to acts 1:8) It is an empowerment characterized by the yielding our spirit and tongues to he Holy Ghost in a prayer language that helps us to pray, prophesy and preach. Or how else are we empowered if not to speak under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath ANOINTED ME TO PREACH the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 14:55, 16 Mar - Pastor Bayo: So we have to be careful o surmising or experience based interpretations of spiritual phenomenon Clearly from evidence of scripture and apostolic pattern it is clear that tongues is a sign of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believer? Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
