QUESTION: "Sir, i have a few questions. 1. Which of the functions is most important sir, 'function in the body of Christ' or 'function in the local church'. 2. Can you really be functioning in the Body and not doing so in ' a local' church, if so how? 3. Am i right to say that if you are an usher in your local church and you got an NVQ in ushering after much training, it does not mean you are 'called' to be an usher? Or you could still be called to be an usher? Could being an usher be a calling? If not what type of calling will relate to ushering (Sorry i found ushering easy to use, no other reason) 4. Could you give some examples of callings? 5. Are callings the same as gifts????"

ANSWER: "1.Functioning in the body of Christ is the most important........you can't function in the local Christ if you have no true connection with the body of Christ. You are just an attendee 2.You cannot function in the body of Christ without having a local context, you will always be ministering to people in a place or gathering, which for all intents and purposes is a local (location) assembly 3.There is no such thing as a call to be an usher, neither can you 'train' into a call, you can only train/ develop what has already been put there... People who may feel called to be an usher, could really be responding to a genuine call of the helps ministry. Because the body of Christ is far greater in context to the congregating of believers, the role of 'ushering' in a church service is a minute expression of the ministry of helps 4.Examples of callings Apostles Prophets Evangelists Pastors Teachers Helps Governments Diversities of tongues These are the eight categories of callings in the body of Christ In a local assembly however, you have appointed officers who either oversee other believers or who oversee tasks (bishops and deacons) 5.According to Rom 11:29, gifts are different from calling …Gifts are plural and calling is always singular! Your call is your assignment whilst your gifts are the tools that you have been given to execute it. There are always more than one gifting associated with a call "
