QUESTION: "Good morning pastor, its been a while. We have talked about why christians may die from sickness. Are you able to share some light and hopefully some encouragement on why christians may suffer tragedy. And how we are comforted in those times. What the state of our heart should be and how we find hope...the world is becoming more fierce... Could John the Baptist have avoided being beheaded by more prayer? Could stephen have avoided being stoned to death? Could Myles Munroe have avoided the plane crash? Must we prepare that we may die anytime? My questions may reveal where my heart is today....God help us all!"

Pastor's response...

ANSWER: "Some questions are difficult for us to answer; I don't know if we can ask when we get to heaven. A few points though that we know for certain: 1. No matter what happens, God is still sovereign and reigns over the affairs of men 2. God is good all the time 3. Some tragic events are a test of faith 4. Some tragic events are so God can be glorified at the end 5. Some tragic events are due to the law of seed and harvest, sowing and reaping 6. Some events are a result of things that happened generations before us.??? Psalm 23 is a great chapter to read during these times x??? More specifically speaking of Tragedy, comfort, state of our hearts during and after, finding hope... You would notice that most of the tragedies of the human experience has to do with 'death' and suffering that leads to death. E.g sickness, poverty, trauma We are born into a world defiled by sin, we live in a system where the devil rules through the lust of the flesh, yes and the pride of life. He is described as the God of this world. (World here means the systems of the world and not the geographical earth) Our Lord Jesus said the thief cometh not, but to steal, to kill and destroy, but he has come to give life, and that abundantly. We can see that there is evil in the world, because there is an evil devil who leads men who are in bondage of sin and ignorant to commit acts that lead to the destruction of the world around them and their very selves. Unfortunately we all have to deal with the consequences of the acts inspired by hell and done by hell! Also Christ said he would build his church and the gates of hell will not prevail! This means that 'we' his church are being built and the gates (authorities)of hell will contend , but will not prevail. I said this to show that, the fact that you have accepted Jesus makes you a threat to the devil and he will fight you! so the believers experience is not a measure of his defeat, but the believers victory is their ability to trust in God in spite of our circumstance, death to a believer is not defeat, it is an exit into glory, all believers will die one day, we cannot be intimidated by death and hell anymore, however we have the right to live as long as we need to in order to fulfil Gods plan for our lives, and we have a right to live free from oppression For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7) 1 Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? "
