We were approached for the use of our facility for a joint Christian/Hindu worship service which we declined to do, we were quite happy to work together to serve the community but we couldn't be coming together claiming to worship the same god!

After our initial conversation the following dialogue ensued I will use "GS" to represent the gentleman we had the dialogue with.

Hello Friend
I hope you are very well. There are many similarities than differences between the Christian teachings and the Vedic scriptures for example

John 14:21 says that He that love the me shall be loved by my father and I will love him
Gita says I am exceedingly dear to the wise man - he is also dear to me 7:17.

Bible John 14:6 says I am the way the truth and the life
Gita says I am the way, supporter, Lord, witness, abode, refuge and friend 9:18

John 6:57 He dwellers in me and I in Him
Gita 6:30 says I never depart from him, he never departs from me.

John 3:5 says he that believe that in me shall never perish, but shall have eternal life
Gita says 9:31 Be assured that he who worships me perishes not.

Rev. 1.8 says I am Alpha, omega, the beginning and the end
Gita 10:20 says I am the beginning and the middle and the end of things.

So u may not realise we have so many beliefs in common. We just need to work together for the command beliefs of the human race

When Jesus Christ was born it says men from the east came bringing with them frankincense, incense and myre.

Please let us talk and set up a programme where we can sing God's glories. Praise be the Lord whether u call Him Christ or Krishna it does not matter. Kind regards GS

Our Response

Thanks GS,
Whilst I appreciate your effort at finding common grounds between Christianity and Vedic teachings, unfortunately similarities doesn't always mean uniformity. (That is not to say we cannot relate together, it just says that we cannot confuse belief systems)

Jesus and Krishna are very different persons and did different things.

A Ford Mondeo and a Benz may have similarities but they are not the same kind of car.

Christianity is not just another religion. Krishna may have a name that sounds like Christ but they are about totally different things,

I will explain a few basic things about Christianity to you.

1. Christ came to solve the issues of mans sin

Matthew 1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The whole of humankind sinned in Adam, we all inherited his sentence, we are unclean and cannot hope to see God when we die because the penalty for our sin is eternal separation from God.

Romans 5:12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

2. Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross so that we do not have to face this terrible penalty, and rose again after he had finished (did Krishna do this too?)

Galatians 1:4
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

1 Corinthians 15:3
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1 John 2:2
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 4:10
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

3. Christ then offered us the free gift of eternal life if we choose to believe in his death and resurrection for our sakes

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:18-19
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship with God, made possible through reconciliation by recieving  the forgiveness of sins provided by the penalty paid by the shedding of Christ's blood on Calvary

So real Christianity is not a religion, it is each man and woman reconciling with God through Jesus Christ, he is the only way we have back to God, no religion can get man back to God, you cannot be justified by any good works, the only thing that can put man back in Gods good books is for everyone to serve their penalty, and since no one can do that on their own, nor can any one do it for us,

Jesus has paid the price once and for all, what we need to do is to accept his sacrifice for our sins and confess him as our Lord and Savior, then we would be saved!

Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

So you can see that we are talking about two different entities, Jesus wants to save all mankind from hell,

if we choose not to accept what he has offered, then that is too sad, as we will have no one to blame because we chose not to accept his pardon.

We should let the whole world know that Christ has paid for all our sins, we only need to ask him and he will forgive us,save us and give us eternal life...

This is the simple but powerful message of the Gospel of Christ, that we do not have to die in our sins and face Gods wrath.

This is why it will be inappropriate to allow anyone to assume that the Gospel is similar to any religion, because that will damn many souls to hell!

When I was younger in my late teen I changed from Hindu to Christian because I didn't know much about my religion. But then that th somebody pointed out that the Vedic scriptures go far deeper than Christianity offers and I saw so many similarities between the two.

I notice you have not mentioned any scriptures from the old testament do you think they are irrelevant? Jesus actually brought a lot of teachings from the east because the bible does not mention many details about him growing up. We know he was born to Joseph and Mary in a stable but nothing more until he was 30 years. You never hear of any mention of any of the ancient men like moses, job, noah washing feet but Jesus introduced a service attitude. He says of anyone wants to be great let him be a servant. The Vedic scriptures tells us that devotional service is the highest service and one such service is telling other people about God. Even bible says go and preach the good news.

Kind regards GS

Our Response

As you can see from my answers, our position is not really about depth of scripture or comparison of religion, it is about the state of the human soul and our decision to accept or reject Gods offer for salvation

I may not have mentioned any text in the Old Testament in my answers, I doubt if you will have the time to read what I have to say about that, however, a quick summary should suffice the old and New Testament were written to describe the fall of man, prophesy and deliver Gods redemption plan for mankind, the Old Testament pointed to Jesus, the New Testament revealed him.

If you were ever a Christian, which meant you accepted Jesus as your lord and savior and had your sins pardoned; as a lot of people think they are Christians just because they attend church or become baptized in water, to be a Christian means you 'become' Christlike by accepting him into your heart... If you ever really did this, I am suprised you then compare that to a religion?

I wonder what the verdic scriptures offer in terms of redemption? Jesus offers us eternal life. Religion may offer you a sense of spirituality or piety but will never save your soul! You may need to review what sort of Christianity you were offered then the 'religion' or the life?

There are many who call themselves Christians who merely practice it as a religion, this is not real Christianity, it is mere religion, real Christianity is giving your heart to the lord Jesus and living for him. You speak of Gospel, the gospel is not just telling people there is a God...

The Gospel is this
We are sinners doomed to die,
God has fully paid the price,
he has offered it free of charge
All we need is to accept
And all our sins are washed away

The only Gospel God wants preached to mankind is 'you don't have to die in your sins'

There has been no further conversations since then, I hope this makes clear to us why all religions could not be serving the same Christian God, I hope this inspires you to have confidence in the faith that was delivered to you and boldly point out to those deceived by religion that Christ has not come to set up another religion but a routes to citizenship in the kingdom of heaven
